Fenelon Falls Secondary School holds Plant Sale to support the school’s green industries program

The Grade 10 and 11 green industries class at Fenelon Falls Secondary School (FFSS) has been organizing and managing an annual Plant Sale for several years.

This year’s initiative was held on May 12 and 13, and invited students, staff, and the community. Advertising for the event was done through posters hung around town and within local businesses.

Visitors shopped through a diverse selection of succulents, cacti, vegetables, and an assortment of house plants, all of which were grown from seed by the students, or propagated from donated plants.

“The green industries program is important in showing young students that the term “the trades” covers so many various career paths—I have students excited about the possibility of becoming a florist and working for themselves in the future,” expressed FFSS program teacher, Zach Dudman. “It’s important to show students as many different career paths as possible before sending them off into the world. Every student has interests and strengths, let’s try to find a career that can satisfy both.”

The Plant Sale successfully generated $1,250! These proceeds will go back into the green industries program, supporting maintenance of the school’s greenhouse, and the procurement of essential supplies, including pots, soil, and seeds.
