Welcome to Kindergarten

BookA special orientation morning is being planned for new Kindergarten students who will be attending Dr. George Hall in September. It will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Dr. George Hall Public School.

This will be a great opportunity for our new Kindergarten students and their parents/guardians to see the Kindergarten classrooms and to engage in play-based activities at a variety of centres. Parents and guardians will have time to talk with teachers, administrators, staff from the Ontario Early Years and other parents. To help prepare for September, our new students
will also be invited to go on a short bus ride with their parents/guardians and have a chance to meet and talk with a bus driver about bus safety.

Children who have already registered for Kindergarten will receive a special invitation to this event in the mail. If you have not yet registered your child, please call the school as soon as possible to add your child’s name to the list for this exciting morning. If you know of a family in our school area with a kindergarten age child who has not yet registered, please pass this information along to them.SchoolHouse

Please mark the morning of Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 on your calendar. We are looking forward to seeing you at Welcome to
Kindergarten.

Nutrition News

In March we celebrated Nutrition Month. This year we celebrated it with a snack recipe contest by selling fruit kabobs on Wednesdays.

The cut-off date was March 31. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

The snack needs to contain ingredients from at least two of the food groups. The recipe also needs to be easily prepared.

One winner from a Primary, Junior and Intermediate class will be chosen. The winning recipes will be made and given to the students and his or her classes. Extra consideration will be given to original recipes. I can’t wait to read over the recipes and choose the winners.

The sale of fruit kabobs was disrupted because of the snow day. However, we held the sale on the following day. Sales this month have netted the Breakfast Club about $100.

Recently, we have received a number of food donations, such as cereal, applesauce and fruity pieces. I’d like to thank the families who donated. You can rest assured that the food will be gobbled up by the students!

If you would like to send some food for Breakfast Club, we can always use 6 packs of applesauce, cheese strings, yogurt, whole wheat bagels or English muffins. Some people deserve a thank you from me. Recently I was unable to come to work. Two of our Grade 5 girls were scheduled to come in to make breakfast. With limited knowledge where all the usual supplies were they
persevered and prepared the breakfast trays and plates to the best of their ability. Thank you to Emma Jones and Mackenzie Byveld!

During March we have sold fruit kabobs on Wednesdays. Who prepared these luscious creations?
Thanks go out to our volunteers, Paula King and June Salt! They had much more foresight as to how many kabobs to prepare. Thank you so much!
