Our school has been selected to participate in year one of our TLDSB Launch of ‘The Seven Grandfather Teachings in Schools’. There are hundreds of different nations of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. The Seven Sacred Teachings we bring are graciously shared and guided by Elders and Knowledge Holders of Curve Lake First Nation, Michi-Saagiig Territory, as well as Wasauksing First Nation, Robinson-Huron Treaty Territory. Our first assembly will be September 25 to begin our journey.
The Seven Sacred Teachings are a way of being for the Anishinaabe of this land. They are teachings that help guide us on a path towards being a good human. They are about relationships with self, others and the land and go far deeper than we can ever explore inside our schools. We will inspire our students to think beyond spirit days and character traits to how these teachings can help us learn to be human.
Things we will consider:
- September – A way of life – something that lives within.
- October – Love,
- November- Respect,
- December – Bravery,
- January – Humility,
- February – Truth,
- March – Honesty,
- April – Wisdom.
- May – Relationships and how these teachings support relationships with self, others and the land.
- June – our opportunity to engage in meaning reconciliation as a community grounded in these teachings.
