DGH’s Flower Fundraiser Was A Huge Success!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Thank you to all those who purchased flowers for the Parent Counci’s Flower Fundraiser. Flower sales were impressive and almost $2000 was raised for the Parent Council! Every order was picked up on the delivery date (Wednesday, November 27) – which was greatly appreciated! As you can tell from this post’s photo, A LOT of flowers were sold! Thank you, Mrs. Strange (Parent Council member) for helping us organize orders in advance of the pick up time! As you can tell from the photo below, Mrs. James (our Vice-Principal) and Mr. Boudreault (our Parent Council Chair) were having far too much fun organizing flower orders!

Christmas Families Information – DGH Community, We Need Your Help!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH Community, our school is once again supporting local families who require assistance to make their Christmas a great one. Each year, DGH sponsors local families with both food and gifts. Our Student Council is heavily involved in this initiative, using money raised over the course of the year to purchase gifts. This is part of the WE initiative to support local charities.

Attached to this post is a letter providing some additional information regarding the ages of the children being supported.  DGH has always done an amazing job supporting families with gifts to open on Christmas Day.  Moms and Dads are often forgotten on this day, so any gifts for them are appreciated too.

All gifts need to be in by Wednesday, December 11, as the Student Council members go shopping (with money they have raised this year) to purchase additional gifts.

Please know that there is no pressure in the above request.  If your family is able to contribute this is greatly appreciated, but there is no requirement to do so.

The Christmas Concert will take place during the 3rd Block on Wednesday, December 11th (starting after 2nd recess – roughly 2:10pm). Each class will be performing a song.

An evening performance has been scheduled December 11 at 6:15pm (students are asked to be at the school for 6:00pm). Please note that the evening performance is “tentative” and may need to be cancelled due to extenuating circumstances. Should this occur, parents and guardians will be informed immediately.

The inclement weather date for both the afternoon and evening performance is Thursday, December 12.

Students have already begun practising and are excited to perform for our school community! Thank you for organizing, Mrs. Graham-Hamer!

Executive Functioning Focus For December: Flexibility

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH community, as we head into December our Executive Functioning will be changing to FLEXIBILITY. This is probably a great choice given the amount of flexibility required over the course of this month! Routines in December likely change more than any other month, and students (and staff) have to demonstrate flexibility in order to be successful. Over the course of December, staff members will be discussing flexibility with students and working on barriers and strategies.

What is flexibility? Seeing many sides of an idea or situation. Being able to change and adapt. Flexibility is a true life skill which people (whether young or old) use every day.

How can you help your child(ren) with flexibility? It is always good to discuss possible problems and solutions in advance. For example, during December it is a guarantee that regular class schedules will change on some days. Talking with your child about how they can handle this will prepare them in advance.

Interested in learning more about Executive Functions? Check out the Activated Learning website. PBS has a great article on Flexible Thinking which can be checked out here.

It should be a great time for our students and a wonderful way to be physically active in the winter! A reminder that students must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet while on the ice and students should also be wearing gloves.
