On behalf of the DGH staff, I would like to wish our entire DGH community a safe and happy holidays. I hope that everyone has extra time for family and that you have at least some additional downtime. Frankly, it seems hard to believe that the first 4 months of the school year have passed this quickly! It also seems hard to believe that these many events and activities were squeezed into the past week and a half. We look forward to coming back to school on January 6, recharged and ready to head into the rest of the school year.
Let’s hope that Mrs Taylor and Mrs. Starr have been good this year! We are hoping that their good behaviour will encourage Santa to drop by tomorrow morning for our Breakfast with Santa. Regardless of whether Santa does drop in, our Parent Council will be hosting a pancake breakfast for all students. This is definitely one of our more popular events each year, so we are all looking forward to it!
Congratulations to Trinity W (who placed 1st) and Carson L (who placed 2nd) in the T.O.M. (Think Of Me) OPP and LCBO contest. In the Think Of Me campaign, students decorate bags which are used to bag products purchased at the LCBO over the holiday season. The goal is to discourage drinking and driving. Trinity’s and Carson’s T.O.M. bags will be displayed in the OPP’s Lindsay Detachment. Both Trinity and Carson are in Ms. Graham’s class. Thank you, Constable Lanning, for again running this important program!
Ms. Graham will be taking her class and the Intermediate Choir for another of DGH’s holiday traditions – visiting a number of Lindsay’s retirement homes to bring holiday cheer to local seniors. Students have been practising their singing for the past several weeks and are ready to perform. Thank you for being ambassadors for our school, students. Thank you, Ms. Graham, for organizing this event.
Thank you, Mrs. Britton, for leading our carol sing yesterday morning! Mrs. Britton’s piano playing was a WONDERFUL way to start this annual tradition and our students did an outstanding job singing along. Our students will be carol singing each morning this week. This is certainly a great way to build our school community and spirit.
DGH community, as you can see from the photos, the Christmas Shoppe is ready to go! You can see Mrs. Walden amongst all of your donations! Our students have lots to choose from. There will be many, many smile from our students today. Let the shopping begin!
Our grades 6 to 8 students will have the perfect way to head into the Christmas Holidays – a dance! Our Student Council has organized a dance for the 3rd Block (roughly 2:10pm to 315pm). The Halloween Dance was a success and we are sure that this one will be too! Friday’s Spirit Day is “Red and Green Day”, so the Gym should be a sea of these colours!
For parents and guardians with students in JK, SK, grades 2, 4 and 7, our local Health Unit will be providing free dental screening on January 9 and 10. Attached to this post is the letter from the Health Unit. It contains information around the dental screening and a number to call if you wish to opt your child out of this free service. Thank you to our local Health Unit for providing this great opportunity!
Our DGH Parent Council is happy to announce that they are once again running the ever popular Breakfast With Santa on Friday, December 20. We are hoping that with our advanced notice to Santa that he will be able to make an appearance on the morning of December 20. Hopefully Mr. Boudreault, our Parent Council Chair, has been good all year – making it more likely for Santa to drop in!
Whether Santa is able to make it or not, the pancake breakfast will take place! We will start with our Kindergarten students and work our way up to our grade 8s. Our goal is for all students to have had their pancake breakfast by about mid-way through the 2nd Block. The breakfast will start after our carol sing ends.
Thank you to our Parent Council for running this event as it is one that our students look forward to each year! If December 20 is a snow day, our pancake breakfast will be rescheduled to Pancake Tuesday which is Tuesday, February 25.
DGH community, thank you for your truly WONDERFUL support of our Christmas Families program. Each year our school (led by the Student Council) supports a number of local families to make their Christmas a memorable one. This includes providing items like clothing and toys, along with food for the holiday. The generosity of our community means that these families will definitely enjoy the holiday. Truly, we cannot thank you enough for all that you have provided. For those who would still like to donate, simply drop off items at our office. This is just one more reason why Dr. George Hall PS is an amazing place to be.
