Fire and Lockdown Drill Practices at DGH

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Students and staff at DGH will be practising Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills over the course of the school year.  For those with older students, you know that we hold several practices for both situations early on in the school year and then a few more as the year continues.

We have already several Fire and Lockdown Practice Drills.

We also update and maintain our emergency procedures each year.

The goal in doing so is to give students and staff the knowledge and confidence to react appropriately should the need arise.

Due to the number of practices we hold, students become quite good at independently knowing how to react in these situations and the practices help to reduce a great deal of stress.

Should your daughter or son come home and mention having taken part in these practices, please feel free to discuss what has taken place.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at 705-786-1915.

DGH community, we are asking all of our students to wear orange on Tuesday, October 1st to recognize Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is all about raising awareness of the impact of the Residential School System on the First Nations. This time of the year is chosen as this was the time of the year that children were removed from their homes and placed in residential schools. Orange Shirt Day also hopes to encourage all to come together in reconciliation. If you are interested in learning more, please click here to visit the Orange Shirt Day website.

DGH’s Terry Fox Run Is Tomorrow (Friday, September 27th)

The photo attached to this post is truly iconic. When one thinks of what it means to be Canadian, this photo, Terry Fox and everything that Terry Fox ran for must surely be considered. More than $750 million dollars has been raised since Terry Fox began his run April 12, 1980 and was forced to stop on September 1. Countless lives saved. Countless advancements made in battling this disease. Countless family memories created as a result of longer lives lived. All because of the research made possible through the fundraising efforts of people such as in our DGH community. Every cent counts.

There will be a retake day at some point; however, we encourage all students to have their photos taken on the 30th.
