One of the great things about DGH is the sheer number of activities in which students can involve themselves (especially our Junior and Intermediate students). As you read the message below, check out our website or Facebook page, or our school calendar, you truly get a sense of how many things take place in our school.
Our basketball teams will be competing in their respective County Tournaments over the course of April. Our Juniors play on Monday, April 9th at LCVI. The Senior Girls compete on Monday, April 23rd and our Senior Boys play on Thursday, April 26th. All of the teams have had a number of exhibition games. We certainly appreciate the effort already put in by our players and coaches.
Ms. Arscott and Ms. Graham have organized this year’s Jump Rope for Heart Event, with the Kick-Off Assembly taking place on March 26tth. Last year, DGH raised over $8000 for this worthwhile charity. Heart attacks and strokes have affected almost every family in Canada and the money raised helps improve the survival rate and quality of life by those impacted by these diseases. The information letter sent home last week has been posted to the website and can be accessed by clicking Jump Rope for Heart Letter 2018.
The Cheerleading Team, again coached by Ms. Arscott, has kicked into overdrive! Practices are ramping up and the team is extremely happy about this! It is pretty hard to beat the smiles on team members’ faces as they complete their routines. Ms. Elliott has organized a new (for DGH) activity for her class: kickboxing lessons! Ms. Elliott will be teaching her class kickboxing skills which will ultimately culminate in her class visiting a martial arts gym to consolidate the skills they have learned. DGH recognized World Autism Day on Tuesday, April 3rd (the official day is April 2nd; however, that falls on Easter Monday). To recognize the day, we asked school members to wear blue; DGH has done an amazing job in past years with this day! You can click here for a link to our website. Wizard of Oz practices have also stepped up in April! Mrs. Ellis and Ms. James will be keeping cast members busy for the next month and a half as they practice and prepare for the shows. Last, but certainly not least, Ms. Graham’s WE intramural basketball continues in April. WE basketball is all about FUN and keeping our students active; it is not often that the kids come out of the gym without a smile on their faces.
