Grade 3 Swim to Survive Dates

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH parents and guardians of grade 3 students, the Swim to Survive program is back this year!  For those who are not familiar with the program, funding is provided to allow for all grade 3 students to receive 3 sessions to teach them the basics of how to survive should they fall into water.  Given where we live, with so many bodies of water around, and the number of people who own swimming pools, the Swim to Survive program is a worthwhile one.

The program runs out of the Lindsay Recreation Complex and is taught by trained lifeguards.

A permission form should have gone home already, if not please contact Ms. Davis or Mr. Fournier.

There is no cost for students to participate.  The 3 dates are February 16th, February 23rd and March 2nd.

DGH community, do not forget that next Tuesday, February 27th is the Parent Council’s “Design Your Own Sign Night”!  While the Parent Council will make some money from the night ($15 from each participant’s fee goes to the Parent Council), the main purpose of the night is to have the chance for community members to get together for a relaxing and fun evening.

All of the relevant information can be found in an earlier post which can be read by clicking here.

Thank you to Ms. Horton and the Parent Council for organizing this evening!

Sorry for any confusion!

DGH Olympics Opening Ceremonies Are Tomorrow!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Ms. Graham and her Olympic Organizing Committee would like to remind the DGH community that our Olympic Opening Ceremonies will take place tomorrow during the 3rd block. In the 2nd block, students will be getting together in their respective countries to learn about its history and culture.

Olympic events will be happening in the 3rd block on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week. Outdoor activities are weather dependent, so extreme cold or a lack of snow may mean Olympic activities having to be rescheduled or cancelled. Keep your fingers crossed for perfect outdoor winter weather!

Thanks for organizing, Ms. Graham!

DGH community, our grade 6 to 8 students will enjoy a Valentines’ Dance on February 14th during the 3rd Block (1:50 pm to 3:15 pm).  Our last dance, the Christmas Dance, was missed due to a snow day, so the kids are excited!  Thank you to the Student Leadership Council for organizing.

Skating on February 15th for Junior and Intermediate Classes

posted in: Home Page News | 0

We have 2 groups skating on Thursday, February 15th.  All of our skating is taking place at the Little Britain Arena.

Students in Ms. Prins’, Ms. Graham’s, Ms. Elliott’s and Ms. Knot’s classes skate during the 1st Block.

Students in Mr. Fournier’s, Ms. Anckaert’s, Ms. Phendler’s and Mrs. Burns’ classes skate during the 2nd Block.

We are asking students to pay $1 to cover the cost of skating.  All students MUST wear a CSA approved hockey helmet (TLDSB mandated).  We are provided advanced so that parents will have the time to arrange for a helmet if their child(ren) does not own one.

Thank you to the DGH Olympic Organizing Committee (and particularly Ms. Arscott for arranging this with the Little Britain arena) for setting up this fun and physically active event.  Skating at the local arena and outside winter activities – it is pretty hard to beat that!

Ms. Prins’ Class to Yearley on February 13th and 14th

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Ms. Prins has organized the Yearley overnight trip for her class for February 13th and 14th. Yearley is an outdoor activity camp operated by the TLDSB. The goal is for every TLDSB grade 6 student to attend the camp. In the case of blended grade 6/7 class, like Ms. Prins’, the grade 7s in her class have the opportunity to go again.

While at Yearley, students participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including orienteering and the always popular ecology game (where students take on the role of various animals and try to survive during the game).

The class will be leaving soon after 9:00 am on February 13th and should return in time for the afternoon bus run on the 14th.

The Yearley trip is weather dependent. Should there be a snow day on the 13th, the trip will be rescheduled to a later date.
