DGH community, Mr. Fournier (the Senior Boys Volleyball Team coach) wanted to provide a recap of the boys’ efforts at the County Tournament.
The Intermediate Boys Volleyball team concluded their season January 29th in the County tournament which took place at Fenelon Falls Secondary School. The boys were off to a great start that day, having won their first match against Scott Young PS in the first two games. They experienced defeat against a strong Central Senior School team, meaning they had to win their next match against Mariposa ES in order to advance
to the semi-final round. The DGH players had time to prepare for the upcoming match against a team with whom they were familiar. This season, the Huskies were unable to win
a match against the Monarchs during the exhibition games leading up to the tournament. The DGH boys were motivated. After two hard-fought games, the match was tied at one game apiece. The tie-breaking game to fifteen was a nail-biter. The boys celebrated their victory after securing the final point and, therefore, a position in the semi-final round. A formidable opponent, Langton PS, defeated the DGH team, advancing to the final match against Central Senior School. The Huskies were reminded to keep their chins up and to reflect on their accomplishments that led them to that semi-final round.
As the DGH coach, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach a wonderful group of grade 7 and 8 boys, most of whom I would otherwise not have got to know. I wanted to take a brief moment to thank the players. Thank you for your hard work. You gave your best effort during practices and games.
Thank you for your “coachablility”. You showed a desire to be better players, listening respectfully and showing excellent improvement throughout the season. Thank you for your sacrifice. You gave up many recesses to attend practices.
