Recycle Your Old and Unused Glasses to DGH, Please!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH community – we are looking for your help and to spread the word!  Our Student Council is collecting old and unused glasses to support our local Lions Club.  If you have older glasses (that the prescription is no longer good for your eyes, the glasses are out of style, or you have simply outgrown), please donate them to DGH.

Glasses are being collected in the office.  Collected glasses will gain a second life – providing the gift of better vision to others.  When we talk about helping others, there are few better ways than this!

This is part of the Student Council’s commitment to the WE group – to support local and international charities.  We have an active Student Council who support others in so many ways!

Get the word out, DGH community!

Jump Rope for Heart Day Was a HUGE Success

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Thank you, Ms. McColl and Ms. Graham, for an absolutely outstanding day last Friday, May 12th.  Students in grades 5 to 8 participated in the Jump Rope for Heart Day.  Along with the opportunity to raise money for a great charity, students had the chance to be physically active for much of the day.

During Blocks 1 and 2 students (in teams they created themselves for the day) participated in volleyball and basketball games.  Teams played a number of games against different teams over the course of this time.  3 volleyball courts were constantly running inside and 2 basketball courts were constantly running outside.  During Block 3 students then participated in a large inside dodgeball game.

To say that the day was a success would be an understatement!  Student behaviour was great, the smiles on faces were large and students had the chance to burn off some energy as we head into the final stretch of the school year.

At the day’s end, both Ms. McColl and Ms. Graham told students that they don’t mind the time, effort and energy put into a day like this – when students participated in the way that they did.  Be proud of your students, DGH community!

Thank you to the staff who organizing and supervised the day’s activities – your efforts are appreciated.

A number of photos from the day have been posted to the school’s Facebook page. You will probably notice that it was also a Hawaiian Spirit Day – which explains the large number of hula skirts being worn!!!

DGH Jr/Int Track and Field is this Wednesday, May 17th

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH parents with Junior and/or Intermediate students, our Track and Field Day has been set for this Wednesday, May 17th.  We chose this date based on what day was likely to have the best weather.

As always, we are excited to run our Track and Field Day!  A few things to be aware of are:

• track events take place in the morning and once they are finished, we head into the field events for the remainder of the day

• the “finals” of track events often taken place the following day (due to time constraints)

• please to be sure to dress for the weather (exclusive or heavier rain or lightning, we will go ahead with the day).  Be sure to bring a hat and sunblock.  Even when it isn’t sunny you will get a sunburn!  If the day is a bit cooler, a sweater and track pants aren’t a bad idea – you can always change into shorts and a t-shirt as the day goes on.

• you do need to wear running shoes (flip flops, sandals, crocs and those types of shoes can’t be used)

• be sure to pack a good lunch with lots of fluids.

• on Track and Field Days we do allow students to take water bottles outside.  However, if there are issues (kids throwing water bottles around or spraying people) water bottles will have to be left inside.

It should be a great day!  Thanks to staff for organizing!

Parent Council’s Little Caesar’s Fundraiser Kicks Off on Monday, May 15th

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Mr. Boudreault and the Parent Council have set the date for their final fundraiser of the year – the Little Caesars Pizza Fundraiser kicks begins on Monday, May 15th.  An information letter, along with the Little Caesars Ordering Pamphlet has either gone home by now or will be going home soon.

Why Support the Fundraiser?

A portion of every product sold comes back to the Parent Council!  They then use the money to support initiatives in the school.  This year the Parent Council installed the very popular hydration station in the Primary end of the building and purchased new jerseys for our school teams.  Both of these initiatives benefit large numbers of students in the school!

All of the money raised by the Parent Council always goes back into the school to support students!

Important Dates

• Start of Fundraiser – Monday, May 15th

• End of Fundraiser (Envelopes and $ Due into School) – Friday, May 26th

• Delivery at School – Tuesday, June 13th

DGH’s Junior and Intermediate Track and Field (Potential Dates)

posted in: Home Page News | 0

DGH community, please be aware that Ms. Graham has chosen 3 possible dates for our Junior and Intermediate Track and Field Day:

• Monday, May 15th,

• Tuesday, May 16th, or

• Wednesday, May 17th.

We are waiting to see what the weather brings for those days.  Taking weather into consideration (along with other activities happening in the school), we will choose the best day.  We will likely wait until mid to late-week to make the decision (so that we have the best prediction of the weather).

Track and Field Day normally takes all of one day (and often part of a second day).

Spirit Day This Friday – Hawaiian Day!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

The DGH Student Council has been busy in the past couple of months!  Based on the success of our last few Spirit Days, they have organized our next Spirit Day for this Friday, May 12th – Hawaiian Day!

Last year, students were incredibly creative.  We saw lots of Hawaiian style theme shirts (always good!).  But we also saw more creative students who bought or created their own hula style skirts and leis; island themed hats were definitely popular, too.  Flowers in the hair always look good!

So, DGH, students – get creative!  Let’s use our Hawaiian Spirit Day to chase away the cold weather and rain!
