Junior and Intermediate Speeches take place in the 1st Block on Tuesday, February 23rd. This is an opportunity for the best of our public speakers to show off their skills!
Public speaking ranks as one of the most terrifying activities for adults (let alone students), so the confidence that these speakers will show on Tuesday is all the more impressive! For those that seen students public speaking, you will know that their poise, word choice and clarity is extraordinary – honestly, it seems like some of our students could takeover a news broadcast without any difficult!
Steven Lorentz, Centre for the Peterborough Petes, will be visiting DGH in the 1st Block this morning! Steven will be reading with some of our Primary classes in the 1st Block. The goal is to model that athletes can love to read, too!
Thanks to Ms. Stebbins for organizing this activity!
Thanks to the Petes and Steven Lorentz for coming to DGH! This is a very cool opportunity for DGH! Steven is a draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes (pretty impressive!).
First Term Report Cards go home this Friday, February 19th. Unlike the Progress Reports, this set of reports will have letter grades for grade 1 to 6 students and marks for grades 7 and 8 students.
Should you have any questions regarding the Report Card, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher directly. Frankly, the vast majority of questions or concerns are easily resolved with a conversation. The home-school connection is a critical one and by working together we will all give your child(ren) the best opportunity to succeed.
DGH’s next Parent Council Meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 17th. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and takes place in the school’s Library.
Monday, February 15th is the Family Day Holiday. There will be no school this day. Hopefully all of the families in our school community will have the opportunity to spend time together on this day.
We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday.
Our grade 6s will continue with their OPP KIDS Programme with Constable Lanning on Tuesday, February 16th. Ms. McColl’s class will be working with Constable Lanning in the 1st period and Mr. Hetherington’s class in the 2nd period.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The link below contains a letter from Director Hope (the Director of Education for the Trillium Lakelands District School Board) with information regarding the 5-Year Pupil Accommodation Long Term Plan for our school board. This letter is being sent home with all DGH students today (and for all students in the TLDSB).

Additional information is available on the school board website (under the tab “Accommodation Review” on the right-hand side of the page) at:
DGH school community, do not forget that Monday, February 15th is Ontario’s Family Day Holiday. There is no school on this day. Hopefully all of our families will get the opportunity, at some point during the day, to spend time together. With any luck the snow will hold and the weather will be nice, allowing families to spend some of the day outdoors.
Parents and guardians – the Parent Council’s Little Caesars Pick-Up is this Thursday, February 11th.
The Pick-Up Time starts at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m..
The school, unfortunately, does not have freezer storage facilities, so all orders must be picked up on Thursday in the times noted.
Thank you to all those who supported the Parent Council’s fundraiser. All of the profits raised go right back into supporting our DGH students!
While it has been a pretty soft winter so far this year (which many, many people are quite okay with!), there should be enough snow for students in Mr. Hetherington’s, Ms. Graham’s and Ms. Read’s classes to go tubing and cross-country skiing this Wednesday, February 10th. They will be travelling to Horseshoe Valley.
This is a very popular trip (the students always come back with rave reviews) – so it should be a great day for students.
Thanks, Ms. Read, for organizing.
