Parents, guardians and students in grade 8, LCVI’s Grade 8 Parent Information Night (now called “Pathways Night”) takes place at 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 19th.  This is a GREAT night to attend, especially if this is your first child to attend high school.  High school has changed a lot since we attended!  Any questions that you may have can be answered by LCVI staff.  If you did not go to LCVI, the night also provides an opportunity to check out the school and see all that it has to offer.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact DGH’s office at 705-786-1915 or LCVI.

Christmas Carols Thanks

Thank you, Ms. Britton, for organizing our carol sing each morning of the final week before our holidays.  In addition, Ms. Britton played the piano and led our singing.  She “tickled the ivories” and kept our students engaged!

A “tip jar” appeared on Ms. Britton’s piano at some point during the week and tips ended up in the jar!

Great job, Ms. Britton!

Christmas Shoppe Success!

The Christmas Shoppe was a HUGE success again this year!  Thank you, Ms. Walden, for organizing the day and putting so many smiles on so many students’ faces.

Thank you to the many, many people who donated many, many items to the Christmas Shoppe!  While our collection started slowly, the number of items that poured in the final week was incredible.  The tables that filled more than half of our gym were packed with items.

All of these items meant that our younger students had a great number of items to choose from.  Judging from the smiles on their faces, our students definitely enjoyed shopping for immediate family members!

Our older students helped act as “personal shoppers” for our younger students.  Ms. Walden reported that our older students did a fantastic job and she was extremely please with their efforts.

In addition, thank you to the many parents and community members who volunteered to come in and wrap the hundreds of gifts that were selected.  Personally, I cannot even imagine wrapping that many gifts, so the time and energy you donated is greatly appreciated.

Welcome Back!

The DGH staff hopes that everyone had an enjoyable holiday.  Time with family and an opportunity to unwind and relax a little is always appreciated.  The holiday gives everyone in the school community the chance to recharge themselves for the next stretch of the school year which goes to the March Break.

Within these 2 months there will be many things happening.  It is kind of a “hold onto your hat” feeling because of how many things take place:

• the LCVI Band visits DGH on Friday, January 8th,

• our basketball teams have been practising for the past several weeks and compete at the Zone tournaments (and hopefully County tournaments) in mid to late January,

• the basketball season will no more than end and the volleyball season will begin,

• Ms. Graham, as she has done for years, will be convening both the Senior Zone Basketball tournaments at DGH and also the Senior Girls County tournament at FFSS,

• First term Report Cards will go home in mid-February, and,

• Constable Lanning will be continuing her visits with our grade 6s for the OPP KIDS programme.

Our Parent Council will also be active.  In addition to its regular meetings, the Council will be running its very popular and successful Little Caesars Pizza Fundraiser in mid-January.  As always, the profits from this fundraiser are used to support students at our school and your support is greatly appreciated.
