“Brown-Hog” Day Reminder – Tuesday, February 2nd

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Do not forget that next Tuesday, February 2nd is a DGH Spirit Day – “Brown-Hog” Day!  The Student Council is challenging students to wear as much brown as they can in honour of Groundhog Day.  Hopefully all of the brown being worn will mean an early end to winter!

Ms. Starr, Ms. Taylor and Ms. McFaul have promised to “brown” it up on Tuesday!

Mr. Parish, well, he is feeling sick already!

Thank You, Ms. Graham and Mr. Hetherington

DGH will not see the direct benefit of this, but all of the other City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton area schools will!  Ms. Graham and Mr. Hetherington will be convening the County Girls Basketball Tournament on Monday, February 1st.  This is no small task!  The tournament is convened at Fenelon Falls Secondary School, so they have to arrange for everything without the benefit of being at the school beforehand.

Ms. Graham has convened both Zone and County Basketball tournaments for YEARS (she is great at it!) and Mr. Hetherington has convened his share of tournaments, as well.  Their knowledge of basketball (and sports, in general) makes them a natural fit for events like this.

Ms. Graham and Mr. Hetherington – thanks for convening for this end of the board!

LCVI Information Night: Tuesday, February 9th @ 6:30 p.m.

DGH Spirit Day – “Brown-Hog Day” – Tuesday, February 2nd

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Somehow I think that Ms. Graham and the Student Council are enjoying this joke on me (this is Mr. Parish writing the post)!  To say that I have a dislike of the colour brown would be a bit of an understatement!

So, when Ms. Graham provided the list of the next few Spirit Days I was a bit surprised/shocked to see that Tuesday, February 2nd will be our next Spirit Day – Brown-Hog Day in honour of it being Groundhog Day!

The challenge is out there, DGH school community!  Just how much brown can one person wear in one day?  I do not know, but I am sure that I am going to find out!  Shoes…socks…pants…shirts…ties – you name it and it probably comes in brown!  Get creative!  Get artistic!  A brown shirt would probably be pretty boring – so what can be added to it to make it more interesting?

I suppose the question is: “If a person wearing brown sees their shadow…does that mean 6 more weeks of winter?”

4 on 4 Intramural Floor Hockey at DGH!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Thank you, Ms. Graham, for once again organizing a 4 on 4 Intramural Floor Hockey Tournament during recesses!  Ms. Graham is giving up some of her recess time for one of the school’s more popular intramurals!  Grades 6-8 students are able to participate, with separate girls and boys divisions.  The competition is high and the games get pretty intense (to say the least).

This is one GREAT way to beat the winter blahs!

Aside from the benefits of the physical activity, our students also have a great time playing with (and against) friends.

Grades 7 & 8 MADD Presentation – Jan 27th

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Our grade 7 and 8 students will receive a MADD Presentation (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) this Wednesday, January 27th.  This important presentation is all about teaching our students about the dangers of drunk driving – an all the more important message considering that these students will be getting the wheel in only 2 to 4 short years!

Drunk driving remains an unfortunate reality on our roads and the goal of MADD is to make this a thing of the past.  Thank you, MADD, for spreading the message at DGH.

Our intermediate students will be receiving this presentation in the 3rd block on Wednesday.
