Our Junior and Intermediate students are excited!  Jimmy Chapman is bringing his breakdancing classes to them tomorrow!  This is their first session of the year.  Jimmy will, no doubt, be building on the moves that he taught them last year.  We are looking forward to the dances that our older students put together!

Comfortable clothing and gym shoes are highly recommended.  Jimmy will be working them hard!

Poinsettia Fundraiser for the Parent Council

DGH school community, our Parent Council’s Poinsettia Fundraiser is on!

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise money towards the purchase of a Hydration Station for the Primary wing of the school.  The Hydration Station in the Junior and Intermediate wing has been a huge hit – so we know that one in the Primary wing will be, as well.

Orders and money are due back into the school on Tuesday, December 1st.

As always, the Parent Council and the school appreciate any and all support our school community is able to provide.

Spirit Day Friday – Decades Day!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

This is an interesting Spirit Day, DGH!  Decades Day is pretty wide open, really.  Do you go for the 1960s and its colourful creations?  Perhaps the 1970s and polyester is more to your liking?  The disco era is one that many of us would like to forget, but its styles still keep coming back periodically!  The 1980s had a little bit of everything, but I am guessing most students do not want to wear padded shoulders.  The 1990s had some seriously bright colours that we are all trying to forget.

All we can suggest is that you pick an era and go for it!

Let’s make DGH colourful on Friday, Huskies!

Elmira Chicken Orders Due Today!

Parents and students in grades 5 to 8, do not forget that Elmira Chicken orders and money are due into the school today.  Students keep the individual profits that they raise through these sales and put them towards their year-end school trips.  Thanks to all those who supported this fundraiser.

DGH Spirit Day – Decades Day – November 27th

Our second Spirit Day of the year is an interesting one and one that I do not believe has been done at DGH before: DECADES Day! Then again, it could have something to do with me wondering which decade to choose (it is Mr. Parish writing the post) because I have many to choose from: the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s!

My life spans fabrics from polyester to cotton and styles from bell-bottoms (not my favourite) to the extremely bright and colourful neon colours of the 80s. Frankly, I cannot wait for our students today to look back 20 years from now at what they are wearing today and wonder “what was I thinking?” Do you go with the long hair of the 70s (not an issue for me anymore) or the “big” hair of the 80s with A LOT of hair spray!

Students – it is time to get creative and think outside of the box. Check out the web for what people were wearing years ago and see if you can copy that. Who knows, perhaps your parents still have some of their clothing from years past…

Let’s rock the DECADES, DGH school community!

Parent Council Poinsettia Fundraiser Begins Thursday!

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Parents, guardians and students – our Parent Council’s first fundraiser of the year begins tomorrow (Thursday, November 19th) – the Poinsettia Fundraiser!

Last year’s Poinsettia Fundraiser was a HUGE success!  We are hoping that this year’s campaign will be equally successful.  An information package will be going home with your son or daughter tomorrow.  It’s as easy as selling poinsettias to family and friends, collecting the money and then returning this to the school.

ALL of the profits raised by the Parent Council Fundraiser go to support students at DGH.  The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to purchase a Hydration Station for the Primary wing of the school.

Key Information

Start Date:                                         Thursday, November 19th

Forms Due into School:                   Tuesday, December 1st

Poinsettias Delivered to School:     Tuesday, December 8th

Elmira Chicken Fundraiser for Grades 5 – 8 Continues

The Elmira Chicken Fundraiser for our grades 5 to 8 students continues!  Students are raising money to help cover the cost of year-end trips (which tend to be more expensive in these grades).  Students receive a portion of each box of chicken they sell.

Orders and money are due into the school on Monday, November 23rd.  Thanks again, Ms. Graham, for organizing!

If you would like to order chicken and support a student (but do not have a student in these grades), please contact the office at 705-786-1915 and we can link you with a student.

DGH’s Parent Council and Upcoming Meeting on Wednesday

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Our next Parent Council Meeting is on Wednesday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m..  The meeting will be held in the school library.

The DGH Parent Council held its first meeting on Wednesday, October 28th. The purpose of the meeting was to elect a Chair and decide some initial initiatives for the year. DGH will again have 2 Co-Chairs this year: Ms. Kristin Watt and Mr. Grant Boudreault. Thank you for volunteering again! At this point, the positions of Treasurer and Secretary are unfilled; however, these positions will be filled at our next meeting on November 18th.

The council decided to postpone the Little Caesars Pizza Fundraiser, due to the unusual start to this year, until after the Christmas Holidays. This will allow the grade 6s, 7s and 8s to sell Elmira Chicken (organized by Ms. Graham) as a fundraiser to help cover some of the cost of their year-end trips which tend to be more expensive.

Instead, the first Parent Council Fundraiser will be Poinsettias. Money raised from the Poinsettia fundraiser will go towards the purchase of a Hydration Station for the Primary side of the school. The Parent Council purchased a Hydration Station for the Junior/Intermediate at the end of last year and it has been extremely popular! So, we know a Primary Hydration Station will be popular! Information about the Poinsettia Fundraiser will be going home soon with students.

As well, the Parent Council is again organizing its ever popular Breakfast with Santa. Scheduled for Tuesday, December 15th in the 1st Block. Santa will hopefully make his visit and students will be enjoying a pancake breakfast after carolling.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 18th at 6:00 p.m. in the DGH library.
