DGH Parents – Bear Sighting in the Local Area

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Parents and guardians of students at DGH, please be aware that we received a phone call today indicating a bear sighting in the area (a few kilometres from the school).  Assuming it is the same bear there have been sightings as far north as Valentia Road and as far south as Washburn Island.

Protocol in this case would be:

– if the bear sighting was close to the school (e.g., in a field adjacent to the school) we would keep students in the school for recess until we felt that the bear had left area.

Staff carry walkie-talkies with them at recess.  Should a bear be sighted on the yard/a field adjacent to the school, students would be immediately brought inside and the office would be contacted via the walkie-talkies (with the bell being rung for students to come inside immediately).

If additional information becomes available, we will continue to keep parents and guardians posted via our school website and the DGH Facebook feed.
