Greetings to all TLDSB parents/guardians!
Did you know that each school has a School Council largely made up of parent volunteers? And did you know that each School Council is invited to send representatives to the District School Council – Parent Involvement Committee (DSC-PIC)? Well, it gets even better! Each year the Trillium Lakelands District School Board provides funding for the DSC-PIC to take on a project that its members believe will be helpful to parents. Projects often take the form of one-time information events; however our project last year for the Muskoka region was different.
The Muskoka DSC-PIC members are striving to point all parents/guardians towards a wide variety of parent resources that are available through the school board website . Your child will be bringing home a Parent Resources Toolbox magnet to place on your fridge. This magnet is provided to you through the combined efforts and pooled funding of the DSC-PIC and TLDSB. And, we are providing this magnet to all families in TLDSB – Muskoka, Haliburton, and Kawartha Lakes!
We hope that you will SURF and FIND tools and resources that you are looking for. Remember to also take a few moments with your children to BROWSE the helpful information that can be found under the STUDENT tab on the website!
If you do not have online access in your home, visit your school or local library.

Do not forget, students and parents, that DGH’s Book Fair begins on Wednesday, September 24th and runs to Friday, September 26th.  Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during the day with his/her classroom and will also have the opportunity to visit during DGH’s Meet the Staff Night on Thursday, September 25th.

If you have attended one of DGH’s previous Book Fairs you will know that there are a variety of books from the very reasonably priced to more expensive titles. Hopefully there is a book for everyone!

Thank you to Mrs. Starr for organizing this year’s Book Fair.  Thanks also to the volunteers who are running the Book Fair.  Many of our students look forward to the Book Fair each year (I know that my kids do!) – so your time in volunteering is greatly appreciated!

DGH is Scent Free

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Just a friendly reminder to the DGH community that we are a scent free school.  We do have individuals in the building who are sensitive to scents.  This would include things like:

– perfume, and

– body sprays (e.g., Axe).

Sprays like the above can bring on shortness of breath, asthma for some people and headaches for others.  As well, some of these scents are quite strong…and what one person likes…another person does not!

Older students (Intermediates, in particular) should be using deodorant.  We would encourage the use of “stick” or “roll-on” types of deodorant.

DGH – The Terry Fox Challenge is Out There!

On Friday afternoon (September 12th), DGH kicked off its annual Terry Fox Fundraiser.  A number of students from Mr. Hetherington’s class spoke about Terry Fox’s inspirational message and how DGH can help support his dream by raising money to fight cancer.  Mr. Hetherington and Mrs. Marsh even took pies in the face as part of a challenge from last year!

Dr. George Hall students will be participating in our school’s Terry Fox Run in the 3rd block of Friday, September 26th.

Terry Fox might just be Canada’s greatest hero!  Students learned today that he ran for 143 days – running a marathon each day.  He stopped only when the return of cancer forced him to end his run.

So, Huskies, how can you keep Terry Fox’s dream alive?  By raising money and donating it to the Terry Fox foundation.  You can raise money in 2 different ways:

– by getting a pledge sheet from Mr. Hetherington and returning the pledge sheet and money to the school, or

– by donating money via the Terry Fox website (more Information will be on this below).

TO DONATE ONLINE CLICK ON THIS LINK!  This will take you to Terry Fox Organization’s webpage.  You will then follow the steps below to donate!

Once again, the Intermediate Division will be giving students the opportunity to order a nutritious lunch from the Pita Pit Restaurant.  The order forms will be sent home during the beginning of a school week and will need to be returned by the due date shown in the top left corner of the order sheet.  Please remember to cross out any ingredients your child does not want on his/her pita. The pitas will then be delivered to our school every Tuesday of each month.  The cost of each pita is $4.00.
