DGH’s Staff Wish You A Safe and Happy Holiday

posted in: Home Page News | 0

On behalf of the DGH staff, I would like to wish our entire community a safe and happy holiday.  We truly wish that every family has the opportunity to spend extra time together during this busy time of the year.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in January, refreshed and recharged!  It is hard to believe that we are already 4 months into the school year (with September to the end of December often feeling like the longest stretch of the year).  When we come back in January, it often feels like the pace of the activities and events happening in our school only increases!

January promises to be a busy month for our students.

Each of our volleyball teams will be competing in their County Volleyball tournaments.  The Junior Mixed team competes on Monday, January 15th at Fenelon Falls Secondary School, the Senior Girls team competes at Central Senior Public School on Monday, January 22nd and the Senior Boys team competes at Fenelon Falls Secondary School on January 29th.  Each of the teams has been practising hard and we know that we will give us their best efforts at their tournaments.  Thanks to both students and staff for their efforts.

The end of their elementary school career is in sight for our grade 8s!  Friday, January 12th sees LCVI Guidance Counsellors talking about course selections with our soon to be graduates and they return on Tuesday, January 30th to help our grade 8s fill out their online course selection forms.  The LCVI Information Night for grade 8s and their parents takes place on Thursday, January 25th.

Other events include the LCVI Band performing on Friday, January 12th (always popular – and it is great to see former DGH grads performing), Mrs. Burns’ class welcomes Scientists in the School on Thursday, January 18th and there is a PA Day on Friday, February 2nd.

Enjoy the two respite, DGH community; when we return in January the school year is going to be awfully busy!

WE Intramural Floor Hockey

Check out a few pictures below from Ms. Graham’s WE Intramural Floor Hockey.  Students signed up and created teams, with Ms. Graham providing the overall organization.  Students paid $1 to sign up and all of the money raised went toward the Student Council’s WE charities.  Thanks to all who participated.  Students were always excited to be playing floor hockey at recess!

Thank you, DGH Community!

We received a thank you card in the mail today. Thought we’d share …

“Dear Students, Staff & Parents,

You have certainly done your part in scaring away hunger. All of the foods you gathered hit our shelves and are now shared with your neighbours that are not as fortunate as you are. A sincere thank you to everyone who helped.

Blessing to you,
Little Britain – Mariposa Food Bank”

Grade 8 Course Selections for Grade 9 in January

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Parents of students in grade 8, as hard as it is to believe, planning for our grade 8s heading into grade 9 is about to begin!  There are 3 critical dates that you (and your daughters and sons) need be aware of.

Friday January 12th – LCVI guidance counsellors will be visiting DGH’s grade 8s to discuss course selections and course options for them in grade 9.  Students won’t be picking their courses on this day, they will just be finding out information from the LCVI guidance counsellors.

At this time (or soon after), grade 8s will receive paper versions of the course selections to complete and then bring back to school.

Thursday, January 25th  – is LCVI’s Grade 9 Pathways Info Night.  This takes place from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  On this evening, LCVI staff will be walking parents and this year’s grade 8s through course selections, course pathways and what life in high school generally looks like.  This is a great evening to attend to find out about all that LCVI offers (which is a lot!).

Tuesday, January 30th – LCVI guidance counsellors will be back at DGH and students will be choosing their courses online.  Students will have their paper version of the course selections and using that to complete the online version.  Computers will be made available at DGH to facilitate.

Should you have any questions, please free to contact us at 705-786-1915 or you can contact LCVI at 705-324-3556.

Carols at DGH on Wed, Thurs and Fri Mornings

posted in: Home Page News | 0

A popular DGH tradition continues this year: carols in the front foyer!  On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, students will gather in the front foyer after entering the school at 9:00 am to sing holiday carols.  Carol singing lasts for about 30 minutes.  This is a wonderful opportunity to build school and community spirit and for students to meet as a whole.  Parents and guardians are welcome to join us.  Carols will take place in the gym on Friday, as an Assembly will follow.

Christmas Shoppe This Thursday, December 21

posted in: Home Page News | 0

Hot on the heels of our Breakfast With Santa comes a second popular DGH tradition – the Christmas Shoppe!  Organized by Mrs. Walden and her elves, the Christmas Shoppe has run for many years and is always a huge hit.  For the low cost of a $2 donation, students are able to pick out gifts for immediate family members.  Volunteers help wrap gifts for students.  Many parents will tell you that their opening a gift is always an amazing experience.

Do you have any extra tape, wrapping paper or gift bags?  Consider donating them for the Christmas Shoppe – it isn’t too late!  All such donations are greatly appreciated!

Thank you, Mrs. Walden, for organizing!

Breakfast With Santa This Wednesday, December 20th

posted in: Home Page News | 0

One of DGH’s most popular holiday traditions takes place this Wednesday, December 20th – Breakfast with Santa!  Mr. Boudreault and Ms. Watt (our Parent Council Co-Chairs) have been busy buying the pancake mix and syrup for this special day.  The day will begin with carols (students put their winter gear away and then head down to the front foyer).  Pancakes will begin to be served once the carols are over.  We are hoping that the “big guy” will make an appearance at some point during the day!  The pancake breakfast starts with one of our Kindergarten classes and we then work our way up the classes.

Thank you to the Parent Council for organizing this beloved day!
