DGH community, students will enjoy a long weekend beginning on this Friday. Staff will be busy preparing First Term Report Cards, while students will have the opportunity for some additional downtime. Hopefully by this time we will have some more snow on the ground so that everyone can enjoy winter activities, but I am not so sure that is going to be happening! We will see all of our students back on Monday, February 6th.
Below you will find a letter sent home with students last week regarding the hiring of a new French teacher at DGH. Click on the link to read the letter.
Dr. George Hall welcomes Ms. Greidanus to our school. She will be teaching French at DGH during Blocks 2 and 3. She brings considerable experience teaching French and is excited to be a Husky. Ms. Cogar, who has been at DGH since September, will continue teaching French during Block 1. Specific information on which classes are being taught by each teacher is included in the letter.
Is your child turning 4 in 2017? If so, this will be an exciting year for you because IT’S TIME TO REGISTER FOR KINDERGARTEN!
Not sure which school your child should attend? Not sure what paperwork needs to be completed or provided? You can call our school’s office at 705-786-1915 and speak with Mrs. Taylor or Mrs. Starr. They will be happy to guide you through the process. Information on registration and other common questions can also be located on our school board’s website at:
If this is your first child to attend school, we know what a big day it will be for both you and your child! Please do not hesitate to call or drop by the school if you have any questions.
DGH school community, tomorrow, Friday, January 20th, is our next school Spirit Day: Pajamas and Slippers Day! We are asking students to donate $1 towards this spirit day, which goes to the Student Council (which uses this to support charities). Break out those Star Wars pajamas!
Please disregard the previous post about volleyball. Due to this being a Weather Day, the Zone Volleyball tournaments scheduled today have been CANCELLED.
Both of our Intermediate Volleyball teams will be competing at their respective Zone tournaments this afternoon. Ms. Graham and her Intermediate Boys are ready to play hard and Mr. Eagleson’s Intermediate Girls are too! Both teams have had many exhibition games, in addition to their regular practices, and have been working hard at refining their skills. Show us your Huskies’ pride by playing hard and giving it everything you have on the court.
Go Huskies Go!
Parents and guardians, please click on the link below to view an information poster from our local health unit regarding immunization requirements for Ontario schools. A paper version of the poster will be posted in the school.
Our Primary and Junior Volleyballs team will be competing at their Zone tournaments this afternoon! They have been practising hard for the past 2 months and are ready to compete! As always, we care more about effort and sportsmanship than winning. Give us your best effort, compete hard and we will be happy!
Go Huskies Go! Show us that Huskies’ pride!
Parents and guardians of grade 8 students, IE Weldon’s Power Pack and International Baccalaureate Programmes Information Night takes place on January 19th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The night takes place in the cafeteria. IE Weldon staff will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions that staff may have.
This is the same evening as the LCVI Information Night; however, it does run one hour later. This should allow parents and guardians to attend both sessions if they wish to.
Should you require additional information, please free to contact either the DGH or IE Weldon office.
DGH school community, we are looking for your pop tabs! For the past several years, Mr. Hetherington has collected pop tabs, which are then donated to the Lions Club. The Lions Club then take the pop tabs to a metal recycler and use the money from this to purchase wheel chairs. In the past, Mr. Hetherington has collected BAGS full of pop tabs! Over the years many, many wheelchairs have been purchased because of this! Quite simply, this is a great cause to support.
This year, the Lions Club brought in a bucket for the pop tabs. We have placed the bucket in the office and are looking for pop tabs! Simply bring them in and add to the bucket!
DGH – let’s see how many tabs we can collect in the next 6 months!
