When you walk past the Kindergarten wing of DGH, you never really know what learning you are going to stumble upon. If you look closely at the picture below in this post, you will notice a GREAT example of Kindergarten learning! Lots of the kids in Kindergarten love anything to do with cars and trucks and this group of students REALLY loved monster trucks. Ms. Arscott and Ms. Horton thought a perfect learning opportunity would be to draw what a monster truck tire looks like and then measure it.
Looking closely at the phone, you will notice that students used straws, blocks and markers to measure the tire’s width and height. Aside from teaching students about height and width, the activity also encourages students to think about measuring with non-traditional measuring tools. In this case, it is the idea and understanding of what measurement really is that is important.
Thanks, Kindergarten team, for not only providing an excellent learning opportunity, but also making the walls of DGH interesting places to look!
